These therapies provide a relaxed and secure environment in which the client can resolve issues and develop self confidence and esteem. I work to an integrative model which means that I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches according to the client's need. In December 2008 as part of my ongoing professional development I completed a further CBT training.

Counselling - generally short term, and designed to focus on a specific problem. These may include stress, panic attacks, phobias, eating disorders, anger and communication problems. Typically a course of treatment might involve around eight sessions. A review then takes place to assess the original goals and see what change has taken place. The client may feel they have achieved their aim and end or decide to do further work, either to develop the original goals or work on new ones.

Psychotherapy - this involves longer term work on a deeper level and may be a natural progression from an original counselling contract. In the security of the therapeutic relationship where empathy and neutral observance of the client are vital, the latter explores their overall functioning - mental, emotional and physical - to develop understanding and monitor personal change.

Hypnotherapy - this may be used as a tool within the counselling context. A pleasant state of relaxation, it helps treat a variety of complaints from stress and psychosomatic conditions to panic attacks, phobias and addiction problems.

Smoking and Hypnotherapy - I offer a unique two session programme focussing on 'breaking the habit' as an easy effortless and confidence-building life change. For further details, see contact.

Couple Counselling - Effective change in a relationship comes initially through the contained space of therapy. This lets the couple move into a more reflective personal space before reviewing the relationship interactions and making secondary stage (or deeper level) change. Following an assessment each partner is usually seen once separately before returning into conjoint work. This is a challenging and rewarding area of work, requiring a high level of specialist training from the therapist.
